The Palmer PDI 03 is a Speaker Simulator with a load box impedance of 16 Ohms. It actually goes a little further than just your traditional Loadbox; as the PDI 03 also features a Signal Splitter and a DI box all in one unit. Designed specifically for guitars for live and recording applications and comes in a 1xUnit Rack mount format.

Using your PDI 03

You are probably familiar with the traditional guitar setup. Guitar into an Amplifier, Amplifier into a Speaker Cabinet. The PDI03 essentially replaces the Cabinet connection from your amplifier.

In this example; The signal is no longer picked up by a microphone. It passes through a special filter section within the PDI 03 which is fed directly into a mixing console. Thus permitting power amplifiers to operate at saturation points without troublesome volume problems. For example excessive volume.

Simulated speakers

The PDI 03 features two switches. Here you can select between the 9x filter presets simulating various types of speakers and enclosures. An open back 2 x 12” combo or a 4 x 12” cabinet characteristic. You can also select the punch of a full-out stack with a graphic EQ ”V” setting, as well as an ”American” or ”British” speakers and ultra brightness.

Front Panel

On the front panel of the PDI 03, you will find the ‘Filter Volume which controls the simulated output signal level. A Deep/Flat switch allowing you to select the low-end EQ with a ‘Deep’ setting that is typical of closed-back 4×12 cabinets. Alternatively, the ‘Flat’ position simulates the airiness of an open back 2×12 cabinet. Finally, you have a dedicated dial to control the Line Out volume. This is where you control the four paralleled unfiltered outputs signals of the PDI 03, with levels for outputs 1, 2, 3, and 4.
